This is the second set of many hubs featuring my photography during Hurricane Irene...well actually Tropical Storm Irene by the time it passed to the west of Southern Connecticut! In the first photographic hub Hurricane Irene Slams the Coast, I featured a number of photos showing the impacts on the coastal areas of Milford, Connecticut. This hub will feature all the inland impacts of the storm, from fallen trees, fallen wires and torn American Flags. Although the wind was not as bad as they were forecasting, with gusts approaching hurricane force (75 mph) but never quite reaching that speed, the damage was still evident around the city. The first photo above is one of my favorites. It shows a large tree, possibly oak or elm, that was uprooted in front of your quintessential New England Cape Cod home, rock wall included. I love the angle at which I captured this scene and notice the rock wall wasn't even touched! I can like the photograph even more because the tree didn't fall on any part of the home! Below are some other crazy scenes I was able to document with my camera, take a look and enjoy the power of nature.

When I first saw the scene to the right it shocked and amazed me, I had to take a picture! It reminded me of scene out of the movie Twister or any other disaster movie. I couldn't believe how all the corn in this small field was blown over, almost perfectly layered upon each other! It was an interesting shot that I had never seen before and I am very happy I stopped to take it. To the bottom is a photograph of another tree, this time a maple, which fell across a street. If you noticed it even pulled up part of the sidewalk. This maple tree had to be between 20-25 years old and use to shade the whole corner of the street. This tree, like in the first photographic, was uplifted, roots and all, probably due to the saturated ground following a very wet summer.

The next photo (to the right) shows a medium size branch sitting on a power line. As power went out all across the State of Connecticut, scenes like this were prevalent. However what disturbed me most was how close people were getting to the wires as they walked down the street to see the waves at the beach. I actually took this photograph through the windshield of my car, as we drove by.

Finally the photograph below is one of the more symbolic ones I took on August 28, 2011. As you can see it is an American Flag that was left out during the storm. It has been torn, shredded and stretched yet still flies. No doubt a testament to the United states in 2011, which was bombarded by winter storms, flooding, Hurricanes, Tornadoes and other Crazy weather of 2011. Don't forget to check out my other photographs from Hurricane Irene, links are below!
